CNN —Three flight attendants are winning praise for successfully defusing a physical fight between two passengers on board an EVA Air flight. That’s when three female flight attendants stepped in to handle the situation, says EVA. “The company has always adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards incidents of passenger nuisance,” EVA told CNN in the statement. Following the incident, EVA publicly expressed its “sincere gratitude” to its employees and vowed to look into the incident further. That same year, EVA reversed its policy of only hiring women as flight attendants and said it would hire men as cabin crew members too.

AI skeptics — who are legion, and not necessarily part of the fringe tin foil hat crowd — are begging Silicon Valley to take a beat before unleashing AI to the world. Then, the big reveal: It’s all contained in Apple’s new iPad, its thinnest and most powerful ever, thanks to its brand new AI chip. Meanwhile, is anyone else getting inundated with Google’s Pixel ads, which show people giddily using the smartphone’s AI photo-editing software to deceive their online followers? Apple is expected to announce its own ChatGPT-like tools that could be a game changer for your internet searches. The Jeff Goldblums of the AI debate — who include some of the industry’s own pioneers — are not necessarily saying we have to smother AI and pretend it never existed.

When they were children, Memory Banda and her younger sister were inseparable, just a year apart in age and often mistaken for twins. They shared not only clothes and shoes, but also many of the same dreams and aspirations. Then, one afternoon in 2009, that close relationship shattered when Ms. Banda’s sister, at age 11, was forced to wed a man in his 30s who had impregnated her. “She became a different person then,” Ms. Banda recalled. I felt like I lost my best friend.”Her sister’s pregnancy and forced marriage happened soon after her return from a so-called initiation camp.

Inside a subway station in Lower Manhattan, a group of police officers slowly followed a disheveled man in a soiled gray sweatshirt who was stammering and thrashing his arms wildly. He thumped his chest with an open palm and then, growing exasperated, sat down on a staircase. “Come on,” one officer, Heather Cicinnati, said as the man stumbled forward, disoriented and agitated. “We’ve got to leave the station.”The police officers were part of a team led by a medical worker whose job is to move — by force, if needed — mentally ill people, who are often homeless, out of New York City’s transit system. On that brisk March morning, the team handcuffed him and dragged him out of the subway station.

Discontent over the war in Gaza had been building for months at Trinity College Dublin, but what had been a rumble last week suddenly became a roar. News broke that Trinity had demanded a heavy sum from the student union after protests had blocked tourist access to the Book of Kells, a major attraction for paying visitors. Irish lawmakers worried that the university was trying to stifle independent protest, and there were offers of help from lawyers and pro-Palestinian groups. As the campus dispute became a national one, Trinity, Ireland’s oldest and most prestigious university, agreed on Monday to negotiate with pro-Palestinian demonstrators. Capping several head-spinning days, Trinity agreed first to abandon some Israeli investments, a step that nearly all U.S. colleges and universities have so far resisted, and then said on Wednesday that it would look into divesting from all such investments.

Op-ed: My kids have credit cards and yours should, too

Now, my three kids — ages 15, 12 and 10 — have had credit cards since before they entered kindergarten. Adding your child as an authorized user on your credit cards can be a smart way to set them up for financial success. I keep my kids' credit cards safe and have shown my teen how to store his cards in his phone's Apple Pay. We pull my younger kids' credit cards out at least once a year to help pay for their expenses such as school PTA donations, tutoring costs and teachers' gifts. I even have them take their credit card to school to buy some items at the school book fair.

A failed crop, followed by a wave of financial speculation, put cocoa prices on a roller coaster this year, rattling an industry reliant on inexpensive crops and labor. For much of the past decade, the price of cocoa in one key global benchmark hovered around $2,500 per metric ton. They pushed the price above $6,000 a ton in February, $9,000 a ton in March and $11,000 a ton in mid-April. Since then, the price has swung wildly, falling nearly 30 percent in just two weeks before bouncing up again. Large food companies have been raising prices and warning that they’ll have to continue to do so if cocoa doesn’t stabilize.

"Say something to me in Spanish," said my date in the small Catalan city where I've lived since 2016. It's an inevitable part of the first date scenario I've come to hate while dating in Spain. Navigating the apps with my level of Spanish is easy, and I can even manage whole dates. But it wasn't the first time I've been mocked for speaking Spanish in a supposedly romantic context. Debating something complex in Spanish is beyond my language level, but I also know I'll sound rude if I disagree using the blunt language tools I do have.

Drug policy feels very unsettled right now. The war on drugs was a failure. But so far, the war on the war on drugs hasn’t entirely been a success, either. The 4-2 aggregate victory saw Leverkusen reach a first European final in 22 years, while Josip Stanišić’s 97th-minute strike ensured that the recently-crowned German champion remains undefeated this season. It means that Leverkusen has now surpassed Portuguese team Benfica’s record from 1963-65 for the longest unbeaten run across all top-level matches since the introduction of European competitions, according to UEFA. “It says a lot about the team, the conviction that we have and it’s great to finally reach the final.
